Director of Data Engineering [T500-13246]
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Lead multiple teams responsible for data and AI related initiatives with company-wide impacts and outcomes, in partnership with key stakeholders
Manage and provide strategic direction the data engineering team, fostering high performance and professional development for the team and associated product area, ensuring alignment with organizational and portfolio goals
Design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines and architectures while ensuring data quality, accuracy, and governance across the organization
Coach and develop people leaders on your team who are themselves responsible for their teams and outcomes
Conduct 1:1s with their direct reports, and skip-level discussions for team members to assess team health, promote cohesion and camaraderie, and identify and solve issues across the organization
Ability to triage and manage complex, high-pressure production issues
Champion data-driven decision-making throughout the organization for industry trends and advancements in data engineering and Google Cloud Platform services
Demonstrate a test/learn/iterate mindset, emphasizing progress over perfection
Can connect the larger organization strategic goals directly to their team’s tactical goals and can effectively communicate that to their teams
Basic Requirements
11+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience. Including:
6+ years of experience managing and leading engineering teams
1+ years of managing managers
3+ years of practitioner level knowledge of large-scale data warehouse and BI tools migration to Google Cloud data lake
3+ years of experience with cloud computing services (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).
Expertise in data architecture, database design, data quality standards/implementation and data modeling.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization
Proven experience in managing conflicts and people leadership skills
Experience in implementing and managing data security measures.
Ability to showcase acquired business acumen
Knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations, such as CCPA, HIPAA or others
Preferred Requirements
Experience working in an omni-channel retail environment
Staying updated with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and analytics.
4+ years of experience with data engineering and visualization that includes SQL, Airflow, DBT, PowerBI, Tableau and Looker
4+ years of experience in creating data pipelines and BI tool integration using cloud native technologies
Familiarity with programming languages used in data engineering, such as Python, Scala, or Java.
